    They mate between April – June, 3 -7 eggs are buried in the apron in front of their burrow and they hatch in 90 days. The amount of sun influences the sex of the hatchlings, like all reptiles. The hatchlings may live in their mother’s burrow for up to 1 year. One in 100 survives until age 5-6 when their shells harden. They reach sexual maturity at 15 and live to around age 80. Predication is high so survival to sexual maturity is low.
