237  Many Holiday Estates residents knew my mother Ruth. I think this is the best way to reach most of you at this time of the year, so I will post her obituary here. Ruth S. Wilber, 79, died on Sept 18, 2017 at a Bangor hospital surrounded by family following a short period of ill health. She was born in Hartland, Maine, on June 3, 1938 the daughter of Harold and Angilee (Fuller) Seekins. She married Bernald (Sonny) D. Wilber on Sept. 3, 1955 and he predeceased her on Aug. 7, 2001. She was also predeceased by her two brothers Dana and Edmund. Ruth was a hard worker; she raised 4 sons, took in ironing while being a homemaker, and in 1968 she started working at Northeast Shoe in Pittsfield until 1981. She and her husband then started working for Great Northern Paper as gate attendants in the North Maine Woods, a job she continued until her death. They lived at Ragged Lake in the summers and wintered in Florida. She was a strong and independent woman, an avid fisherman, and she loved to bird hunt in the fall which for many years was with their dog, Zoey. She was a member of the Evening Star Chapter #189 Order of the Eastern Star of Hartland and a duel member of the Bethlehem Chapter #36 O.E.S. of Pittsfield. She also was an active member of the Scarlett Dames Red Hats of Pittsfield and Hartland. Ruth is survived by her four sons: James Wilber and his partner Doreen Roberts of Palmyra, Russell and Charlene Wilber of TN, Brian and Sabine Wilber of GA., Harold and Laurie Wilber of Palmyra; eleven grandchildren: Kevin and Jan, Sarah, Ranee and Jason, James and Jessica, Viktoria and fiancee Richard Starr, Timothy and Jillian, Devin and Kala, Dean and Kate, Rebecca, Teah, and Rachel; 23 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; several nieces, and nephews and a special niece Gail and her husband Jerry Burns. Friends may call Monday Sept. 25, 2017 from 6 to 8 pm at the Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center. An Order of the Eastern Star Service will be conducted at 7:30 pm Monday by the officers of the Evening Star Chapter at the funeral home during the visitation. Graveside services will be conducted at 1 pm Tuesday Sept 26, 2017 at the Palmyra Village Cemetery, Rt. 151 in Palmyra with Rev. James Boughman officiating.
